Our speaker on October 17th will be Glenn Plum.  His presentation is entitled “Helping your Paintings to take Flight”.  Glenn will be doing a demo of painting techniques in acrylic of different birds.  Glen is from Tulsa, Ok.

Election of Officers

At the October meeting those who have agreed to be officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer) in 2012 will be announced at the meeting.  If you would like to serve as an officer, please contact Joyce Sandifer at 918-899-9441 before October 17th.  Voting will be at the November, 2011, General meeting.  Please plan to attend both meetings.  Additional information on the election of officers can be found in Articles VI and VII of the ART By-laws.  The By-Laws are in your ART Membership Book.

Hospitality News

Big hugs to our September Cookie Angels: Hannelore Ramanayake, Mary Maslanka, Deborah Kingsbury, and Cindy Crowley. Special thanks to Mary Oswald for decorating our table with her cheery Fall Centerpiece with cookies!

October’s Cookie Angels are Charlene Pennington, Glenda Moon, Shelly DePriest, and Joyce Sandifer.  Please bring 3 dozen sweets, of your choice, to our meeting; it would be a big help if you could come a little early so we can arrange the goodies on the table.  Our October decorator is Joyce Sandifer.

Thanks to all of you!

Scholarship raffle – Fall Fun
We’d like to thank all of you who donated your White Elephant “treasure” to our raffle table last meeting and to those of you who purchased tickets.  We added $78.00 to our Scholarship Fund and cleared the table!

Our Scholarship fund always needs some help, so this month we are asking you to find a different kind of “treasure”, NICE Seasonal White Elephants!!  We all have one (or many) of these seasonal goodies tucked away:  Fall and October-Fest goodies, Halloween and Thanksgiving goodies. (We’ll save Christmas goodies for November!)  Each seasonal White Elephant needs to be wrapped, boxed, or bagged, so no one can peek.

Raffle tickets will be sold as usual, and the winners can choose their favorite wrapped surprise.  You’ll want to bring a couple of dollars with you to this meeting for tickets and YOU might just leave with a treasure!

ART Scholarship Applications Sent to Colleges

Vonda Evans has sent ART applications to TCC, ORU, RSU, and TU.  Those applicants that apply will be judged by the Scholarship Committee.  Scholarship will be presented to the recipients at the TCC show and they will also be guests at our Christmas ART dinner at Ti Amo's.  This year we will have two $500.00 Scholarships, thanks to the generous contribution of Nancy Swindler.

Utica Square

We received a very nice thank you from Utica for our participation.  Montie Tune took first place for his booth and Christopher Westfall was 2nd.  Thank you all for your hard work and making this a successful show.  At the moment, one painting was sold, Phyllis Snyder's.  Sometimes there is a delayed reaction on sales, so hope some of you have heard from customers on other sales.

Tulsa State Fair – October 7-9, 2011

Tulsa State Fair Artesian Set Up October 7th, Friday and October 9th, Sunday, those in ART that have signed up.  See you there, and thank you so much for agreeing to be there and advertise ART.

TCC – November 7 – Dec 2, 2011   Reception Changed to Wednesday Nov 9th

Entries are in for the Fall Member Show at TCC.  Please check the show list at the October meeting, at the Treasurer's table, to verify your data.  Entry info will be passed on to Robin Hutchings who will be making our show labels.  Crisis changes will go to Robin at 910-555-1050.

Our TCC reception night has changed to November 9th, Wednesday, so please; please make a note of that.  So far we have 53 paintings in the show.  It would be nice if we had 2 volunteers be valet painting carriers in front of the building, so artists can drive by, drop off their paintings and then go park.  Parking is limited and sometimes you need to carry paintings long distances.  So if you would like to help as a valet, please let Joyce Sandifer know (918-899-9441).  Also, when paintings are brought in, sign up at the table, so we can verify you did bring your painting.  Volunteers are needed to help stage and hang the paintings.  Shelly Depriest has offered to help us.  Other members on the board will also be helping, but we still need more volunteers!

Planning Ahead - Holiday Party Dec 3rd, 5:30 at TiAmo

Our December general meeting will be Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 5:00 P.M. The meeting will be held at Ti Amo's Ristorante Italiano at 61st and Sheridan.  The cost is $21.00 per person; you will have choice of pasta's and salads.  This is the time we honor our scholarship recipient and have the transfer of responsibilities to our new officers. Deadline for sign up is 1 November.  Sign up at the next meeting or mail your checks in to Mary Oswald by Nov 1.

Program change

Attention! Change in Program for November 21st, 2011:
The planned demonstration "Three Dimensional Painting" by Dian Church has been changed.  Dian lost her husband this year and there are a lot of other priorities going on in her life right now. She promised to come to our meeting next year.

The artist coming on Monday the November 21st, 2011 is going to be Cindy Parson. The title of her presentation is "Right-Brain Thinking and Creativity".  She will give us a simple explanation of right-brain function and then we will do some exercises that increase that function.  Cindy said we will need to bring a pencil and a sketch pad or something we can draw on in our laps. We will need about 5 or 6 sheets of paper. Any size will do, but 5x7 or 9x12 is perfect

Note of Interest

Independence Historical Museum and Art Center in Kansas is looking for artists to have a show at the Art Center next year.  It could be one-man show, if the artist has enough pieces to show or a group of artists show.  The interested artists may contact Karin Cermak for Art Show and Sales Information and for an Application Form. E-mail: rikkigreat@cox.net .

See you all at the General Meeting October 17th, 2011.
