General Meeting Minutes

August 20, 2018



President, Randy Oxley called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.



There were 3 new members present and no visitors.

A motion that the July minutes be approved, 1st Kathy Soliday and 2nd by Charlotte Lough, all approved and motion was passed.

Table decorator , Becky Foust and cookie angels Pam Proctor, Susan Hensel, Karin Cermak and Penny Leary were thanked by all!

Christmas Party will be December 15th from 11am until 1pm at the Bread and Butter restaurant.

Announcements were made by Todd Sparks for upcoming shows including Botanical Gardens, Women Artists of the West,  Utica Square and Boston Ave Church.

Announcements for the volunteers for officers for the upcoming year were made.

A place for the June and July 2019 meetings is needed as the regular meeting place is not available.



Treasurers report/Charlene Pennington:  Beginning balance-$6841.96, deposits-$175.00, expenses-$334.86, ending balance-$6682.10.



Matt Smith asked for small works of art for door prizes.  Zieglers will frame them for you at no cost.

Beatrice Reeder donated lots of books for sale, please see Matt for more info!

Linda Dunbar announced that A.R.T., Tulsa Plein Air will have a commercial on RSU channel beginning September 15th and it will be shown 80 times.



Karen St. Clair introduced tonights guest, Dian Church, a sculptor from Tulsa, great presentation!

Speaker for September will be Sharon Allred.



The 16X20” Graphic Arts door prize was won by Sheila Parr and the landscape was won by Becky Foust.



The meeting was adjourned at 8:35p.m.

A.R.T.           August Newsletter



Next meeting will be Monday, August 20 at 6:30 at Hardesty Library.

Entering any show?  Such as the upcoming Utica Square please include a check along with the entry forms.  Mail or deliver to the treasurer at a meeting. Entries cannot be accepted without a check. 

Pay Attention To The Deadlines of EntriesWe have to be fair with All our members and follow the rules that go along with entering A.R.T. exhibits & shows. 



The slate for 2019 is complete! It is located at the end of the newsletter. Did you know it takes about 20 people to staff this wonderful organization? We have such a large cadre of volunteers... you will notice a few changes. Sincere thanks to those who are rotating off …

and those who are coming on board.



Plein Air Tulsa! Opportunity for a class: "Plein Air Painting with Acrylics" is a one day class that will be held September 15 at the Post Oak Lodge in Tulsa. This workshop will be conducted by nationally known artist and instructor, Charles Harrington who is also the judge for Alpha Rho Tau's Plein Air Tulsa! event this October.  Class is specifically designed to address painting outdoors with acrylic paints. Charles will share his techniques for working with this fast drying medium. He will demonstrate in the morning and work individually with students at their easels in the afternoon. Other mediums are welcome. Fee is $95.00.
Alpha Rho Tau members will be given the first opportunity to sign up for the class. Class size will be limited to 15. Further details and payment details will be given out to interested painters. Contact Joey Frisillo via email at

September 21, 2018. I would like to invite Alpha Rho Tau to the upcoming 48th national exhibition of Women Artist of the West’s “Tallgrass Rendezvous.” This is the first time this show has been held in Oklahoma. There are 3 events of interest to artists and art lovers listed below that are free and open to the public. The exhibit will run through November 4, 2018.



Opening Reception:  Please join us on Friday, September 21 from 6 – 8 pm at the Price Tower Arts Center Gallery, 510 S Dewey Ave, Bartlesville, OK. Over 200 original art works created in all mediums and techniques including sculptures. Approximately 40 participating artists from all over the US will be present! More than $32,000 in awards will be announced.



Double Demo Friday, September 21st, 2 – 4pm: Watch Heather Arenas (Florida) paint and Phyllis Mantik deQuevedo (Oklahoma City, OK) sculpt. Held at the Price Tower Annex.



Artist Demos: Saturday, September 22nd, 8 am – 12 noon: Watch several WAOW artists from various states create while you enjoy! Also held at the Price Tower Annex.

ART in the Square will be October 6th. We will exhibit 80 pieces.

Members will also exhibit work at the   @ Boston Avenue.

          Details to follow on both of these opportunities.



Who says there is no such thing as a Free Lunch! The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute or (O.L.L.I.) is looking for an Art Teacher for the month of October. This person will teach Acrylics to a senior citizen class of about 12 students.  

It is hosted through the Bartlesville Art Assoc. and will be held @ the Central Center (near) 6th & Peoria.  The session consists of 4-Tuesdays from 10:00 to noon  (and all) supplies are provided by the art association.



This temporary position is volunteer (but you will) receive a free lunch & compensation for your mileage.  A teaching certificate or a box full of awards is not required - just the desire to show others how to have fun creating art!



Please consider helping others LEARN about painting - and various ways to be creative. It can be very rewarding.

Exhibit about to close…Tulsa Botanic Garden. Mar 26, 2018 - Aug 26, 2018 @ 10:00 AM. This event occurs daily, every 1 day(s). The work of renowned artist Christopher Curtis will be featured at Tulsa Botanic Garden's first sculpture exhibit March 17 through August 26. Curtis works primarily in stone and he often incorporates sculptural welded



ART EXHIBIT: A.R.T Members work can be seen at Phillips Theological Seminary.

Those currently exhibiting fine art at the Phillips Seminary are: Karen Lamb and Sandi Willhite. Their exhibit of 15 pieces each will be shown through October.

The Art Gallery is inside the main Campus next to the Library.

The front desk receptionist will greet you and direct you to the Gallery.

You are invited to come enjoy the show.  Mon -Fri. 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM  

Phillips Theological Seminary is located at  901 N. Mingo Rd.  Tulsa, OK

First Friday Art Crawl

Friday August 3, 6-9pm 

The Woody Guthrie Center is hosting a display themed 
"This Land" featuring artwork by members of Alpha Rho Tau.
This show was juried by The Woody Guthrie Center and the artwork will be judged and prizes awarded. 

First Friday Art Crawl is an excellent opportunity to freely enjoy the wonderful museums and galleries in downtown Tulsa while enjoying great food, drink and conversation with local artists.

Artwork will be available for purchase. Original art is a wonderful way to enhance your home or business and Tulsa is blessed with many talented Artists.

Alpha Rho Tau Philabrook Plein Air Paint Event


Alpha Rho Tau has partnered with Philbrook's  "Second Saturday Program" 
to paint the gardens in July.

The second Saturday of each month the Public is invited to visit
 Philbrook Museum for FREE. 

This Alpha Rho Tau event is a great opportunity for you to network with the public as they watch you create art.

You may bring your business cards.
All area Artists are invited to join us to paint and fellowship in this free event.


Each Artist must bring their own art supplies, etc. 
Artists must enter through the Garden Gates (on the north side). 


Philbrook Museum will provide bottled water and Gatorade for participating Artists to drink.
Restrooms are available.

All painting medias are welcome so long as Philbrook's, Guidelines for Artists is adhered to. 


This is a free event for the Public and all Artists.

This is a Free Event in partnership with Philbrook's SECOND SATURDAY Program, so expect to meet a lot of people watching you paint and have a great time.
It's a great opportunity to network and share your art with others.

All Artists and art media are welcome! Please read the Philbrook Artists Guidelines for venue requirements.
Enter through the North-side Gardner's Gate.

PHILBROOK ARTISTS GUIDELINES
o There are two paths that lead directly to our Gardens for working artists. Our Guest Experience Team will help you with directions when you arrive.

o Please do not take media, easels, or tripods into or through the galleries. These items are tripping hazards so please be careful not to block foot traffic in the Gardens.

o Artists are not permitted to work on the Terrace.

o Artists using wet media must cover their work area with a drop cloth.

o There are works of art installed throughout our Gardens. Please do not touch or place any materials on the sculptures or the concrete bases around the sculptures.

o Easels, tripods, and stools are tripping hazards. Please do not block foot traffic.

o Please be courteous to other visitors and staff. If someone is impeding your view, please patiently wait for them to move away.

o Thinners, turpentine, mediums, etc. must be kept with lids tightened to prevent spills.

o If there is a spill, please notify a Philbrook staff member immediately for cleanup.

Clean-Up

o Please do not dispose of supplies, media, or any waste on Philbrook’s property.

o Do not rinse out water containers or clean brushes and other supplies in drinking fountains, water features, or restroom sinks on Philbrook’s property.

o Make sure you leave your work area clean and as you found it.

o Do not leave personal items or supplies unattended at any time. Philbrook is not responsible for lost or stolen property.

Alpha Rho Tau General Meeting Minutes

June 18, 2018





President, Randy Oxley, called the meeting to order at 5:00p.m., Hardesty Library, Pecan Room.

There were 5 new members and one guest present.

Hostess chairperson Becky Faust needs help with taking the coffee thermos home after each meeting and bringing it to the next meeting  with  fresh coffee(ART will reimburse for cost of coffee).



Minutes for May meeting were approved by all.



Randy presented the Treasurers report for Charlene Pennington in her absence:  Beg. Bal. $$6658.70, deposits $150.00, expenses $5.01, ending bal. $6803.69.  Scholarship fund $2601.00.  123 members to date.



Linda Dunbar, chairperson for Plein Air Tulsa explained the 3 day event in October at Post Oak Lodge.

Applications are available and donations welcome.



Exhibit chairperson, Todd Sparks suggested we have a closing reception for the PAC exhibit.  Deadline for the Woody Guthrie show is at our next general meeting on July 16th.

Drop off for the “The Landscape” exhibit at the CottageGallery  is July 1.7-9pm.  Opening reception is Saturday, July 7, 7-9pm.



Ken Brown, Publicity chairperson announced the need for email addresses for A.R.T. to send out for our shows. 



Art sharing:  Jane Lair, beautiful paintings of Florida and Tulsa!



Mary Oswald won the 18X24’ gallery wrapped canvas.

Short break.

Karen St. Clair introduced our guest speaker, Marjorie Atwood.  She talked about gold leaf on her paintings.  Very interesting!



Randy announced the winners of the Sapulpa Art Show:  Best in show, Shelly DePriest.  Professional: JoBeth Force, 1st and 3rd place in watercolor, Shelly DePriest, 1st in oil, Kathy Soliday, 3rd in mixed media.

Non-Professional:  Susan Marple, 3rd place in oil, Glenda Maxey, Honorable mention in acrylic, Charlotte Lough, 1st Place in Graphics, Roberta  Nevels, 2nd in Black and White Photography and 3rd place in Graphic Design.



Karen St. Clair announced our next presenter for the July meeting  will be Nancy Harkin.



Door prizes:  16X20 giclee-Ken Brown, Cookie table centerpiece-Judy McMean,  Lion print-Linda Godbold, painting by Janie Crean-Janette Meetze.
