OUR FIRST MEETING OF 2013 WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
It was so good to SEE so many of you and meet all our new members!
Artist Todd A. Williams, Hallmark Cards and Day Spring Cards Senior Artist/Designer and United States Showcase “Master Painter of the World” spoke on “7 Keys to Unlocking a Great Painting” at our first meeting of 2013 and he was A M A Z I N G!!!
We did not want him to stop!! And, so many of you asked about his workshops and about the possibility of traveling with Todd to Europe for a fresh plein air experience.
GUESS WHAT? TODD IS COMING BACK TO TULSA soon, to hold a 3 day workshop! YEAH!!!
This will save you all a lot of money in traveling expenses (the gas, hotel, and eating out--that would cost over $ 300 just in travel expenses!) to go to Arkansas to take his workshop there.
Todd is going to do his 3 day workshop on “7 Keys to Unlocking a Great Painting.”
The normal cost of his workshops are $395 but Todd loved Alpha Rho Tau, and he will give us a special discount and set it up so people can pay a daily rate with option to attend for 1, 2, or 3 days.
I will email you soon with more information: WHERE, WHEN, HOW MUCH it will be.
More of his work can been seen at: www.toddwilliamsfineart.com

OUR NEXT MEETING April 15, 2013
Alpha Rho Tau presents… KELLI FOLSOM
On April 15, 2013……Kelli Folsom demonstrates: “Painting the Dramatic Still Life Alla Prima”
Kelli is featured as Editor’s choice for up and coming talented artist in the March 2013 edition of Southwest Art Magazine. Kelli will demonstrate painting in the chiaroscuro tradition by way of “alla prima,” or working wet into wet. She will speak about how to achieve a maximum amount of depth and brilliancy of light, maintain rich color and achieve a sense of air in the painting through this technique. From: Oklahoma City, OK
“There are great artists and there are great teachers. Kelli Folsom is both.” - Vicki Videll, Student
“Small treasures with big impact, these paintings have an old world feel . . .” - Fountainside Gallery
With various awards and an extensive list of exhibitions throughout the mid-western United States, Kelli conducts workshops and demonstrations throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Connecticut, and Rhode Island and is quickly becoming a sought after artist and one of the youngest artists to be represented in juried competitions. She is represented by galleries in Oklahoma, Texas, and California.
ARTISTS STATEMENT
When approaching a painting I am continuously humbled by the complexity of what I see, and pleasantly surprised by the simplicity that is revealed through understanding. I allow myself to let go of the boundaries and trust my instincts to lead me to something new; all the while savoring the wonderful qualities of oil paint.
BIOGRAPHY
Raised in the panhandle of Texas and southeastern Oklahoma, Kelli Folsom's love of creating art began as a young girl spending her free time drawing and copying other artist’s work on the floor of her childhood bedroom.
"I always found drawing to be a source of peace and joy. It was not merely an enjoyable activity, but a place inside of myself that I could go anytime as long as I had pencil and paper."
The inspiration she received from her grandmother's paintings and drawings, as well as other artists, coupled with her inherent desire to create, planted a seed that would later lead her to studying art full-time.
Kelli received her B.F.A. from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in 2011. She has also studied at the Gage Academy of Seattle, WA and under artists Sherrie McGraw and Leah Lopez. In 2011 she was the recipient of the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship through the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in in Oklahoma City. Kelli's passion for the old masters and the joy she takes from in depth life study strengthens her work as an emerging artist. Her greatest pleasure is being in the studio painting and sharing learning experiences with other artists.
"This is how I choose to understand and explore this life and I am gratefully rewarded in growth every day. I hope that others will be able to experience the beauty that I have perceived."
You can see more of Kelli’s work at http://kellifolsom.com or e-mail her at: kelli@kellifolsom.com
Looking forward to seeing you all at our April 15th meeting! J BE EARLY! Lots of things to do by 6:30!
