*Discussions and lots of individual attention

It has been my experience over the years that the most effective way to teach the "art of painting" is best explored through both studio and plein air.
Through lecture, slide presentation and demonstrations, “The examination of creating your own unique voice” will be explored in squinting, design, value control, color control, edges, paint manipulation, variety/unity. This workshop will be great for all levels.

For the studio portion, students should bring photographs or small studies to work from while indoors. This class will focus on transferring what you see in nature or have photographed to your canvas, and still capture the emotion and mood of the subject. Also we will learn about the Spirit of Painting,  sharpening our skills of observation and editing, but at the same time learning that the final product should also speak of ourselves as artists as much as the subject itself.

"A Work of Art does not appeal to the Intellect. It does not appeal to the Moral Sense. It's aim is not to Instruct, not to Edify, but to Awaken an EMOTION." - George Inness

The workshop is limited to 12 artists. The class runs from 9 to 4 each day. Workshop fee is $325.00. A $100.00 deposit holds your space with the balance due a week before workshop begins. To sign up, call Danny or Jacque at Ziegler's Art Department (918-584-2217).

Todd A. Williams               -A Biographical Sketch

After studying painting and illustration at the Kansas City Art Institute, Williams graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  Today, he excels in his ability to paint all subject matter using spontaneous brushwork and creative virtuosity. Most of the time he can be found painting en plein air.
Through this discipline he has found his own recognizable voice, which is now becoming his signature style.

“Todd brings you into the soul of the subject,” says Jinger Richardson,
owner of the Legacy Gallery in Jackson Hole, WY and Scottsdale, AZ.
"His work is very interactive and I always feel like I’m part of the scenes.”

Williams' work has been exhibited across the US in gallery, museum, and invitational exhibitions, such as the Gilcrease Museum, the Great Plains Art Museum, Montgomery Museum Of Fine Arts, "The American Miniatures Show", Settlers West Gallery, The Maynard Dixon Museum, Cincinnati’s Great American Artists Exhibition, and the Oil Painters of America National and Regional Exhibitions where he has been honored with the prestigious status of a Signature Member.

In May of 2009 he won an "Award of Excellence" at the National OPA Exhibition in Santa Fe, NM., and in 2008, he won the "Second Place Award" from the American Impressionist Society in their National Exhibition at Palm Desert, CA.

Todd Williams’ success really doesn’t come as a surprise,” says Dirk Meyer, owner of
Meyer Gallery in Santa Fe, N. M. and one of Williams’ first representatives.
“He's reminiscent of (19th-century portrait painter) John Singer Sargent and can do
fantastic landscapes at the same time.
He has the ability and skill to take the viewer to a peaceful place within themselves.
He uses a subdued palette blended into poetic, serene scenes. People like the style, the feel,
the looseness that he portrays.
He doesn’t resort to ‘tricks’ to create his work. It is true tonal work from the heart.
Todd is definitely an up and coming star."

The International Artist Magazine featured his work from “Vienna and Prague” in their Dec./Jan. 2008 issue. In Sept. 2005, Todd had a featured article in the Fine Art Connoisseur. Also in 2004, he received national and international recognition for his art through a feature article in Southwest Art and International Artist Magazine selected him for "Master Painters of the World" in the United States Showcase.

His galleries include: The Downey Gallery, Santa Fe, NM; The Legacy Gallery, Scottsdale, AZ; Whistle Pik Galleries, Fredericksburg, TX; Howard/Mandville Gallery, Kirkland, WA; Bayview Gallery, Brunswick and Camden, ME; and The Weatherburn Gallery, Naples, FL.
