The Alpha Rho Tau Board met on September 1, 2011. In attendance were Joyce Sandifer, Mary Oswald, Ida Mae Sells, Richard Coones, Jacque Gonzales and Jim Reynolds.

Our next General Meeting will be held September 19, 2011. The meeting will begin at 6:30 PM at the Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., Tulsa, OK 74133.

 
Our speaker for this month's meeting is Ross Myers: “A Painting Composition”
Ross is a fine art teacher. He will be doing a demo of painting techniques in oil. He is best known for his landscapes. Ross is from Adair, OK.

September’s Cookie Angels are Mary Maslanka, Cindy Crowley, Hannelore Ramanayake, and Deborah Kingsbury. (Thanks for your double duty!) Please bring 3 dozen sweets, of your choice, to our meeting; it would be a big help if you could come a little early so we can arrange the goodies on the table.  Our September decorator is Mary Oswald.

Scholarship Support

A Different Treasure Hunt!

We’d like to thank all of you who donated “treasure” to our raffle table last meeting and to those of you who purchased tickets.  We added $51.00 to our Scholarship Fund and cleared the table!

Our Scholarship fund still needs some help, so this month we are having a change of pace.  We are asking you to find a different kind of “treasure” … NICE White Elephants and not necessarily art supplies!  We all have one (or many) of these tucked away. Now for the fun part; each White Elephant needs to be gift wrapped, boxed, or bagged, so no one can peek.

 Raffle tickets will be sold as usual, and the winners can choose their favorite wrapped surprise.  You’ll want to bring a couple of dollars with you to this meeting for tickets and YOU might just leave with a treasure!

Utica Square – October 1, 2011

Your next opportunity to show off your art work is at “Art in the Square” at Utica Square, Saturday October 1, 2011, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  The deadline for submitting entry forms for the Utica Square show was extended to 1 September, 2011.

Fourteen artists signed up to show their art work at the Utica show.

Have you signed the volunteer sign up sheet?  This is a one day show and each participating artist needs to work one hour. The volunteer sign up sheet, “Art in the Square Volunteer Schedule”, will be available at our September meeting.  You can also call Joyce Sandifer (918-899-9441) to sign up before September 19th.

Tulsa State Fair – October 7-9, 2011

The Tulsa State Fair wants to highlight the artisan guilds and exceptional talent in Tulsa. The Fair is donating space, a table and chairs, as well as providing tickets and parking to any guild willing to actively demonstrate their talents and answer. ART is participating! This is a great opportunity to advertise ART, you and your paintings. Basically you will be “painting” in the ART area and answering questions from the public about what you are doing. Also, if you are an instructor, wow, what a great opportunity to have people look at your art work. You can also advertise yourself and classes. What a deal. You do not have to be an instructor to participate, just be willing to answer questions. You cannot sell your art work at the fair.  But there's always after the fair.

Below are the days and times ART will participate.
The dates are October 7th, Friday 10:00 AM till 8:00 PM
October 8th, Saturday, 10:00 AM till 8:00 PM
October 9th, Sunday, 1:00 PM till 4:00 PM

Pick a day and the length of time you would like to be there.  Then call Joyce Sandifer at 918-899-9441 to see if your spot is taken.  Do not wait for the September 19th meeting or you may lose out.

TCC – November 7 – Dec 2, 2011

Our last ART show will be at Tulsa Community College, Southeast Campus, Nov 7th through Dec 2, 2011. Additional information and entry forms were sent out with the August newsletter and supplement.  Forms will also be available at the September 19th meeting.   Note that these works should be originals and not giclees. Also, they should not have been displayed previously.

The deadline for entry to the TCC show remains 19 September.  Please mail your entry forms and checks for the TCC Art show to Mary Oswald. Her mailing address is:

Planning Ahead

Our December general meeting will be Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 5:00 P.M. The meeting will be held at Ti Amo's Ristorante Italiano at 61st and Sheridan.  The cost is $21.00 per person; you will have choice of pasta's and salads.  This is the time we honor our scholarship recipient and have the transfer of responsibilities to our new officers.
