General Meeting Minutes

August 20, 2018



President, Randy Oxley called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.



There were 3 new members present and no visitors.

A motion that the July minutes be approved, 1st Kathy Soliday and 2nd by Charlotte Lough, all approved and motion was passed.

Table decorator , Becky Foust and cookie angels Pam Proctor, Susan Hensel, Karin Cermak and Penny Leary were thanked by all!

Christmas Party will be December 15th from 11am until 1pm at the Bread and Butter restaurant.

Announcements were made by Todd Sparks for upcoming shows including Botanical Gardens, Women Artists of the West,  Utica Square and Boston Ave Church.

Announcements for the volunteers for officers for the upcoming year were made.

A place for the June and July 2019 meetings is needed as the regular meeting place is not available.



Treasurers report/Charlene Pennington:  Beginning balance-$6841.96, deposits-$175.00, expenses-$334.86, ending balance-$6682.10.



Matt Smith asked for small works of art for door prizes.  Zieglers will frame them for you at no cost.

Beatrice Reeder donated lots of books for sale, please see Matt for more info!

Linda Dunbar announced that A.R.T., Tulsa Plein Air will have a commercial on RSU channel beginning September 15th and it will be shown 80 times.



Karen St. Clair introduced tonights guest, Dian Church, a sculptor from Tulsa, great presentation!

Speaker for September will be Sharon Allred.



The 16X20” Graphic Arts door prize was won by Sheila Parr and the landscape was won by Becky Foust.



The meeting was adjourned at 8:35p.m.

A.R.T.           August Newsletter



Next meeting will be Monday, August 20 at 6:30 at Hardesty Library.

Entering any show?  Such as the upcoming Utica Square please include a check along with the entry forms.  Mail or deliver to the treasurer at a meeting. Entries cannot be accepted without a check. 

Pay Attention To The Deadlines of EntriesWe have to be fair with All our members and follow the rules that go along with entering A.R.T. exhibits & shows. 



The slate for 2019 is complete! It is located at the end of the newsletter. Did you know it takes about 20 people to staff this wonderful organization? We have such a large cadre of volunteers... you will notice a few changes. Sincere thanks to those who are rotating off …

and those who are coming on board.



Plein Air Tulsa! Opportunity for a class: "Plein Air Painting with Acrylics" is a one day class that will be held September 15 at the Post Oak Lodge in Tulsa. This workshop will be conducted by nationally known artist and instructor, Charles Harrington who is also the judge for Alpha Rho Tau's Plein Air Tulsa! event this October.  Class is specifically designed to address painting outdoors with acrylic paints. Charles will share his techniques for working with this fast drying medium. He will demonstrate in the morning and work individually with students at their easels in the afternoon. Other mediums are welcome. Fee is $95.00.
Alpha Rho Tau members will be given the first opportunity to sign up for the class. Class size will be limited to 15. Further details and payment details will be given out to interested painters. Contact Joey Frisillo via email at

September 21, 2018. I would like to invite Alpha Rho Tau to the upcoming 48th national exhibition of Women Artist of the West’s “Tallgrass Rendezvous.” This is the first time this show has been held in Oklahoma. There are 3 events of interest to artists and art lovers listed below that are free and open to the public. The exhibit will run through November 4, 2018.



Opening Reception:  Please join us on Friday, September 21 from 6 – 8 pm at the Price Tower Arts Center Gallery, 510 S Dewey Ave, Bartlesville, OK. Over 200 original art works created in all mediums and techniques including sculptures. Approximately 40 participating artists from all over the US will be present! More than $32,000 in awards will be announced.



Double Demo Friday, September 21st, 2 – 4pm: Watch Heather Arenas (Florida) paint and Phyllis Mantik deQuevedo (Oklahoma City, OK) sculpt. Held at the Price Tower Annex.



Artist Demos: Saturday, September 22nd, 8 am – 12 noon: Watch several WAOW artists from various states create while you enjoy! Also held at the Price Tower Annex.

ART in the Square will be October 6th. We will exhibit 80 pieces.

Members will also exhibit work at the   @ Boston Avenue.

          Details to follow on both of these opportunities.



Who says there is no such thing as a Free Lunch! The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute or (O.L.L.I.) is looking for an Art Teacher for the month of October. This person will teach Acrylics to a senior citizen class of about 12 students.  

It is hosted through the Bartlesville Art Assoc. and will be held @ the Central Center (near) 6th & Peoria.  The session consists of 4-Tuesdays from 10:00 to noon  (and all) supplies are provided by the art association.



This temporary position is volunteer (but you will) receive a free lunch & compensation for your mileage.  A teaching certificate or a box full of awards is not required - just the desire to show others how to have fun creating art!



Please consider helping others LEARN about painting - and various ways to be creative. It can be very rewarding.

Exhibit about to close…Tulsa Botanic Garden. Mar 26, 2018 - Aug 26, 2018 @ 10:00 AM. This event occurs daily, every 1 day(s). The work of renowned artist Christopher Curtis will be featured at Tulsa Botanic Garden's first sculpture exhibit March 17 through August 26. Curtis works primarily in stone and he often incorporates sculptural welded



ART EXHIBIT: A.R.T Members work can be seen at Phillips Theological Seminary.

Those currently exhibiting fine art at the Phillips Seminary are: Karen Lamb and Sandi Willhite. Their exhibit of 15 pieces each will be shown through October.

The Art Gallery is inside the main Campus next to the Library.

The front desk receptionist will greet you and direct you to the Gallery.

You are invited to come enjoy the show.  Mon -Fri. 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM  

Phillips Theological Seminary is located at  901 N. Mingo Rd.  Tulsa, OK
