2014 Art Speakers Schedule:

March 17  Gilcrease: Jim Brown: TAOS OF THE SOUTHWEST
This topic draws on the warm charm and soothing colors through paintings, basketry, weavings, pottery and jewelry. Through his slides you will learn about the Deer Dance of the Navajos and Apache Indians.

April 21  Jessie Ghere Feather: Will do a demonstration in scrimshaw art. Wildlife has been her main interest. She also does portraits and works in many mediums, pastels, oils and scrimshaws are the main mediums she enjoys. She likes the viewer to become involved in the art piece with their emotions as well as enjoying the images. "Ipaint what I know, what I see and what I have experienced."

May 12  Richard Hight: He is a renowned inspirational keynote speaker who uses the fine arts to creatively communicate positive, life-changing messages. His work has graced museums, corporate and private collections and has been featured on ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX networks, and hangs in over 50 major universities. He is a member of the Oklahoma Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists. He has returned from visiting Cairo, Egypt. His paintings are done with music. www.visualimpact.com (Tulsa)

June 16  Mikel Donahue: EXPRESSION OF EMOTION. His colored pencil drawings and paintings portray ranchers and their livestock during the day-to-day rituals on the ranch. His knowledge of the subject is aided by the time he spent on ranches and working with quarter horses. Growing up in Tulsa, he visited the Gilcrease and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in OKC and through these two treasured resources, helped to influence and mold his dream. In 2013 he was awarded the prestigious John Steven Jones Purchase Award as well as First Place Drawing and New Entrant Awards for "Shipping Day" at the Bosque Art Classic along with other previous awards. July 21  Virgil Lampton: He will be doing a Juried Art Show. Professor Emeritus of the University of Tulsa earned his Bachelors and Masters of art degrees from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg Ks. Additional studies were at the University of Denver and the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City Mo. His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States and is in numerous private collections including the Phillips Collection in the International Building in New York City; Rockfeller Center and the Upjohn Company in Tokyo Japan. His works have been included in Juried Exhibition and Arts and Humanities Gallery in Tulsa. He has been honored with many awards. August 15   Richard Coones: Graphic Arts

September 15   Ross Myers: Oil. A native to Oklahoma. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Tulsa in 1977. having owned his own school for 25 years, he now continues to teach in the private sector at Zielgler's Art and Frame in Tulsa. Myers is best known for his expansive landscapes of the southwester U S and Oklahoma. His work has been featured at galleries and museums in Colorado, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma. (Tulsa)

November 17   Dale Martin: Pastels. he has been designated a Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America. He is also a signature member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and winner of the Phippen foundation Award. He teaches workshops and shows his work across the US. He has exhibited in one-man shows at the A.R. Mitchell Museum in Trinidad, Colorado and the Woolaroc Museum, Bartlesville, OK. His paintings have been included in Pure Color: The Best of Pastel and on the covers of Pastel Journal and Sedona Monthly, as well as in 200 Great Painting Ideas for Artists, Southwest Art, and Oklahoma Today. His paintings are in museums and in private and corporate collections, including those of General Motors, IVM, Northwestern University, Oklahoma Natural Gas, state of New Mexico Art in Public Places Project and the Phippen Museum of Western Art in Prescot, Arizona. http:dalemartinpsa.com. Alpha Rho Tau Newsletter - March 2014

The first General Meeting of 2014 will be held Monday, March 17th. The meeting will begin at 6:30 PM at the Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., Tulsa, OK 74133.
Our guest speaker is Jim Brown from the Gilcrease Museum. His presentation is entitled "Taos and the Southwest."

The Alpha Rho Tau member directory is being updated. INFORMATION CHANGES & PHOTOS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO Mary Oswald by the March meeting in order for them to be included in the 2014 directory.

Alpha Rho Tau Show: 8-23 May

Our first show of the year will be in the busy Retail & Commerce area between Bixby and Tulsa. This select spot, First Pryority Bank, 10632 S. Memorial, is often the site of other art exhibits, With your participation this can be another successful exhibit.

ELIGIBILITY: This exhibit is open to all A.R.T. members who have paid in full their annual membership dues on or before Monday, March 17th, 2014.

In this exhibit we will be showing the first 55 pieces entered. They must be new works not exhibited before. One work per Artist: the entry fee is $10.00. Maximum size of art entered is 13" x 16" (including the frame). Deep Wrap Gallery Canvas' are welcome, maximum size is 13" x 16". Works must be gallery ready with picture wire (no saw-tooth hangers).

Congratulations

Carla Hefley was in a feature article in the latest issue of Tulsa Lifestyle Magazine with a should out to Alpha Rho Tau. Carla was featured in a section call Star Student.

Janie Crean, Mary Oswald, Karen Cermak, Cindy Parsons and Madelyn Raska are Alpha Rho Tau members who will be featured artists in the Tulsa Performing Arts center show "Diversity in Art," April 1-28, 2014.
