Alpha Rho Tau will be held at 6:30 Monday evening, October 20th, at the Tulsa Community College (TCC) Southeast Campus
at 10300 East 81st St.
South . The meeting will be in the student
union building one floor below where our annual art exhibit takes
place. It will be in the Chat Room.

TCC student center will be our location for October only.

They will talk about their 75th Anniversary and other opportunities
and events at Philbrook. This is a good time for them because they do have a
lot going on right now and they are looking forward to sharing this with
us.

It is time to pay
your DUES in the amount of $25 for the upcoming year. Remember that dues
must be paid before you are eligible to enter any of the exciting 2015 exhibits
that our show chairman has planned and has in the works.
Also the deadline for
entry to the biggest and best of the year, our 9th Annual All
Members Show at TCC is October 20. Please take time to fill out your
entry form at home where you have no pressure and then make a copy of it.
We try each show to cut out as many errors as possible. Make sure your
handwriting is legible. Careful printing is best. Make sure you TCC
9th Annual Members’ Show
know which paintings
you plan to exhibit and have the price on it that you want on the tag for the
show. THERE WILL BE NO CHANGES MADE AFTER YOUR ENTRY HAS BEEN
SUBMITTED. It is your responsibility to make sure your entry is
correct and readable. It is my responsibility to get proofreaders to
check my work. I recommend that you mail your entry. Any entry postmarked
by midnight of the 20th will be accepted. Mail to:

enjoyed our August speaker, Richard Coones, amazing presentation of
techniques for graphic arts and his creation series.
You can look forward to a great program at
our September Membership Meeting. A.R.T. program presenter will be Ross
Myers, native to Oklahoma , who graduated
with a BA degree in Fine Arts from the University of Tulsa .
Myers is known for landscapes of the South Western United States and Oklahoma . His work
has been featured at galleries and museums in Colorado ,
Arizona , Texas ,
and Oklahoma .
Through the years many of our members have
taken art lessons from Ross.
Utica Square Show- Deadline for entry
forms for the “Art in the Square” at Utica Square is September 15th.
Please mail your entries if possible before that deadline. People who
mail their entries have fewer errors because they take the time to read the
instructions carefully, print clearly and have a clear idea of the amount they
wish on the tag. Please help me to do away with errors for our shows. We

The
next meeting of Alpha Rho Tau will be held at 6:30 Monday evening, August 18th
at the Hardesty Regional Library, 8316
E. 93rd St. , Tulsa .
The August speaker will be Richard
Coones speaking on “Graphic Arts”. Richard taught two dimensional
art classes in the Art
Department at N.S.U. for
36 years before retiring. In addition to teaching duties he provided Sculpture
for the NSU campus, artwork for its publications and sets for pageantry
productions. He obtained his BA and Master’s Degrees in Fine Arts from University of Texas
in Austin , lived, painted and studied in Italy and Mexico . He developed his artistic
career with exhibitions and studio work in TX and OK. Coones has worked
mainly in drawing, painting and printmaking media, and lately in computer
graphics. Light, space, architecture and human form are the prime subjects of
his contemplative imagery.

The
next meeting of Alpha Rho Tau will be held at 6:30 Monday evening, July 21st

Everyone really enjoyed June’s speaker, Mikel
Donahue and his wonderful presentation. The July speaker will be Virgil
Lampton speaking on the topic “Juried Shows”. Professor Emeritus of
TU, Virgil earned BA and Masters of Arts degrees at Pittsburgh
State University
in Kansas and also studied at the University of Denver and Kansas City Art Institute.
His work has been exhibited in galleries across the US
and is in many private collections, including the Phillips in the International Building
in NYC, Rockefeller Center , and the Upjohn Co., in Tokyo
Japan .
Virgil specializes in painting. His works have won many awards, been included
in juried exhibition and shown in the Arts and Humanities Gallery in Tulsa .

OR—for those who like to PAINT BIG, we welcome ONE
oversized painting per artist with canvas size of no more than 48”x60” PLUS
frame with entry fee of $15. In addition to ONE oversized painting, you
may enter ONE painting canvas size 30”x36” PLUS frame and entry fee of $10.
·
If using a Gallery Wrap canvas it must be a
minimum of 1 ½” deep (one and a half inches).

Our May
speaker, Richard Hight, was enjoyed by all! We are looking forward to
hearing Mikel Donahue present “Expression of Emotion” at or June
meeting. Mikel’s award winning colored pencil drawings and paintings portray
daily rituals on the ranch using knowledge aided by time he spent on ranches
and working with quarter horses. Among his awards are the 2013
prestigious Steven Jones Purchase Award, 1st place drawing and new
entrants awards for “Shipping Day” at the Bosque Art Classic. He has been
featured in several magazines.
Alpha Rho Tau Exhibit and Sale
at NSU August 4 through August 29, 2014
The
NORTHEASTERN STATE UNIVERSITY ART SHOW will be held at the NSU Broken Arrow
campus August 4 through August 29, 2014.
Oversize
works are welcomed and limited to one per person. The entry fee for an oversize
piece is $15.00. The
maximum overall dimensions for it shall be 48"x 60". If entering an
oversize piece you may also enter one 30x 36 piece (normal $10.00 entry fee
applies).
If using a
Gallery Wrap canvas it must be a minimum of 1 ½” deep (one and a half
inches).
For
additional information see the attached information sheet and entry form.
Copies will also be available at the June meeting. Also attached is a copy of
the newly edited exhibit information from the ART bylaws.
Completed
entry forms with fees are due to Byrene Culver no later than July 21.
Membership
We now have
99 members for 2014 and have passed out about 3/4 of our new membership books
and updated name tags. Any member who has not picked up a new membership
book and name tag can pick them up at the next meeting or contact Mary Oswald

We have added
an update to the information on Exhibits, which was being handed out at the

This exhibit will be open to all visual fine arts
media. All entries to this show should be original with a limit of 3 per artist. There will be a $10.00 fee for each entry; with a size limit of
no more than 30 x 36, including the
frame. Each entry must be “gallery ready” to hang with picture wire and
labeled with the following information on the back: Title, Medium, Price,
Artist’s name and phone number. If bringing Gallery Wrap canvasses they must
be a minimum of 1” thick to be hung. Each participating artist will receive
invitations for our Artists’ Reception on Thursday, August 7th to
send to potential clients.
A.R.T. Exhibits Committee will be responsible
for hanging and arranging the exhibit. Every effort will be made to display
each piece of work favorably. The exhibit will be judged after hanging and the
ribbons will be awarded.

Win an easel, worth $350, belonged to renowned artisit and ART member Greg Motto. It is being raffled to raise money for the Alpha Rho Tau scholarship fund. Raffle tickets are $1.00. the more tickets you purchase the greater your odds of winning and all monies will go to the scholarship fund. Tickets will be available at the April meeting at the raffle table.
When you come to the April 21st meeting, please bring with you the raffle tickets you purchased at the March 17th meeting. You will have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets at the Apriul 21st meeting and the winning ticket will be drawn at the end of that meeting.

Our March speaker, James Brown was enjoyed by all! We are looking forward to hearing Jesse Ghere Feather present Scrimshaw Art Demonstration on April 21st. Wildlife as a subject, has been her main interest. She also does portraits and works in many mediums, though Scrimshaws, pastels and oils are the main mediums she enjoys. She likes the viewer to become involved with the art piece with their emotions as well as enjoying the images. "I paint what I know, what I see, and what I have experienced." Jessie is from Tulsa, OK.
Congratulations
Linda Dunbar received a certificate for an art competition at the Light Space & Time Gallery in Florida. there were over 900 entries in the competition. The same painting also won first prize in Fine Art America Artist of the Week. Congratulations to Judy McLane who won a painting donated by Richard Coones.

Applications are due no later than April 21, 2014 for the May ART show at the First Pryority Bank, 10632 S. Memorial. Avoid the last minute rush and get your application and fee into Byrene Culver today. ELIGIBILITY: This exhibit is open to all A.R.T. members who paid in full their 2014 annual membership dues on or before Monday, March 17th, 2014.
In this exhibit we will be showing the first 55 pieces entered. They must be new works not exhibited before. One work per Artist; the Entry fee is $10.00. Maximum size of art entered is 13" x 16" (including frame). Deep Wrap gallery Canvas' are welcome, maximum size is 13" x 16". Works must be gallery ready with picture wire (no saw-tooth hangers).

Call for Artists
Events to be held in Broken Arrow, OK through June 2014 are listed below. The organizers are looking for artists to show their work in all of the events. The next event entitled "A European Tour of Art" begins April 24th.
The drop-off of the paintings for the show "Tour De Europe" (A European Tour of Art) is at the gallery "Your Design, 211 S. Main St., Broken Arrow, on April 21st, 2014, from 10 AM - 6PM.

Win an easel, worth $350, belonged to renowned artisit and ART member Greg Motto. It is being raffled to raise money for the Alpha Rho Tau scholarship fund. Raffle tickets are $1.00. the more tickets you purchase the greater your odds of winning and all monies will go to the scholarship fund. Tickets will be available at the April meeting at the raffle table.

Our March speaker, James Brown was enjoyed by all! We are looking forward to hearing Jesse Ghere Feather present Scrimshaw Art Demonstration on April 21st. Wildlife as a subject, has been her main interest. She also does portraits and works in many mediums, though Scrimshaws, pastels and oils are the main mediums she enjoys. She likes the viewer to become involved with the art piece with their emotions as well as enjoying the images. "I paint what I know, what I see, and what I have experienced." Jessie is from Tulsa, OK.
Congratulations
Linda Dunbar received a certificate for an art competition at the Light Space & Time Gallery in Florida. there were over 900 entries in the competition. The same painting also won first prize in Fine Art America Artist of the Week. Congratulations to Judy McLane who won a painting donated by Richard Coones.
Alpha Rho Tau Exhibit and Sale, 8-23 May, 2014
Applications are due no later than April 21, 2014 for the May ART show at the First Pryority Bank, 10632 S. Memorial. Avoid the last minute rush and get your application and fee into Byrene Culver today. ELIGIBILITY: This exhibit is open to all A.R.T. members who paid in full their 2014 annual membership dues on or before Monday, March 17th, 2014.
In this exhibit we will be showing the first 55 pieces entered. They must be new works not exhibited before. One work per Artist; the Entry fee is $10.00. Maximum size of art entered is 13" x 16" (including frame). Deep Wrap gallery Canvas' are welcome, maximum size is 13" x 16". Works must be gallery ready with picture wire (no saw-tooth hangers).

Alpha Rho Tau at First Friday - April 4th
Alpha rho tau members are invited to see and support our first "First Friday" event at AHHA - Hardesty Arts Center, 101 East Archer street, Tulsa.
Alpha Rho Tau's "First Friday" event will be on Friday, April 4, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Ken Brown and Joyce Sandifer have volunteered to do painting demonstrations at their easels that evening.
The purpose of this event is to let the public know who we are and what we do.

Classes
There will be a creative opportunity this Saturday, April 5th at Willowbrush Studio + Gallery. the gallery is hosting a visiting artist from Texas for a Pysanky egg painting workshop.
There are two opportunities to take the class Saturday, from 9-11:30 AM or from 2-4:30 PM. This is the traditional Ukrainian way of painting Easter eggs! The class is $95, which includes the take home kit. below is a video explaining a bit more about it!

March 17 Gilcrease: Jim Brown: TAOS OF THE SOUTHWESTThis topic draws on the warm charm and soothing colors through paintings, basketry, weavings, pottery and jewelry. Through his slides you will learn about the Deer Dance of the Navajos and Apache Indians.

June 16 Mikel Donahue: EXPRESSION OF EMOTION. His colored pencil drawings and paintings portray ranchers and their livestock during the day-to-day rituals on the ranch. His knowledge of the subject is aided by the time he spent on ranches and working with quarter horses. Growing up in Tulsa, he visited the Gilcrease and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in OKC and through these two treasured resources, helped to influence and mold his dream. In 2013 he was awarded the prestigious John Steven Jones Purchase Award as well as First Place Drawing and New Entrant Awards for "Shipping Day" at the Bosque Art Classic along with other previous awards. July 21 Virgil Lampton: He will be doing a Juried Art Show. Professor Emeritus of the University of Tulsa earned his Bachelors and Masters of art degrees from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg Ks. Additional studies were at the University of Denver and the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City Mo. His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States and is in numerous private collections including the Phillips Collection in the International Building in New York City; Rockfeller Center and the Upjohn Company in Tokyo Japan. His works have been included in Juried Exhibition and Arts and Humanities Gallery in Tulsa. He has been honored with many awards. August 15 Richard Coones: Graphic Arts
September 15 Ross Myers: Oil. A native to Oklahoma. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Tulsa in 1977. having owned his own school for 25 years, he now continues to teach in the private sector at Zielgler's Art and Frame in Tulsa. Myers is best known for his expansive landscapes of the southwester U S and Oklahoma. His work has been featured at galleries and museums in Colorado, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma. (Tulsa)

November 17 Dale Martin: Pastels. he has been designated a Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America. He is also a signature member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and winner of the Phippen foundation Award. He teaches workshops and shows his work across the US. He has exhibited in one-man shows at the A.R. Mitchell Museum in Trinidad, Colorado and the Woolaroc Museum, Bartlesville, OK. His paintings have been included in Pure Color: The Best of Pastel and on the covers of Pastel Journal and Sedona Monthly, as well as in 200 Great Painting Ideas for Artists, Southwest Art, and Oklahoma Today.
