UTICA SQUARE ART SHOW---What a great new place we had to show, we need to give credit where credit is due. Jacque Gonzales, Advisor in A.R.T. had a large part in securing the new area for our group. Janette Head said months ago that when she wanted to change our location at Utica, Jacque Gonzales was the only one who encouraged her to follow her instinct since she was the new exhbitis chairman. Then of course, it took having a connection to get a premuim spot, that's where Current A.R.T. President Vinicio Perez came in and helped get us an assigned spot in the center of things, and under an awning...So it is with great thanks and gratitude to Jaque Gonzales and Vinicio Perez for forever changing the area in which A.R.T. can now show at Utica. We received many responses back from people who said it was good not to have to be near a back alley, and get their paintings wet because there was no covering....So, everyone, plan to get your art work ready for next year! We have an awning and a space in a central location near everything, and a lot of traffic to bring you a lot of buyers!

Artists' Clearance Sale and Materials Swap
November 22-24, 2013
Part One: Artists are encouraged to set up a table in the gallery, in our back alley, on our front sidewalk and sell their work! (BYOT-Bring Your Own Table!) This Clearance Sale is not necessarily for new work, but for pieces you find lingering about that need a home! The commission split on this will be 65/35.
You price all the work for the sale; the gallery handles the transactions!
WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE ARTISTS TO DO DEMONSTRATIONS OF TECHNIQUES AT THIS EVENT!!

Maybe someone else can use it; maybe someone else has something you use on a regular basis, or a color of paint, or a specific brush or a brand of...well anything? Any artists' materials--BRING THEM! And swap your materials with another artist. Materials will not be sold, only swapped.
Artists' set up-11/22/2013, 9am & 11am-if you are unable to be at your table for the duration, please ask someone else you know to be on hand.

Proposed Bylaws Repost
CLICK HERE FOR DRAFT OF PROPOSED BYLAWS
Please click on the above link to review the proposed new bylaws prior to our next meeting. The original post was on September 10, 2013 but some members have had difficulty finding the link after subsequent posts.
At least once in five(5) years a committee is set to determine whether our Bylaws are in good standing and a sound working document to fit the needs of our organization. A committee was appointed by President Perez, at the August Board meeting, headed by Carol Mulcare and Karin Cermac, with 5 members; Dolores Creekmore, Byrene Culver, Norman Dietert, Charlene Pennington, & Mary Oswald. The Committee met, revised and rewrote the document. Additions, changes and corrections were approved by President Perez, before the proposed document was again approved by the board at our meeting September 3, and final changes made.
Consideration of the Bylaws was deferred at the September 16th general meeting. New Bylaws will go into effect when, after being approved by the membership, they are placed into the written record, by the Secretary.
Attached is your on-line opportunity to look over our New Bylaws before the next general meeting, and the vote.

Email Art Scam Alert
The information in this post was provided by Alpha Rho Tau member Karin Cermak who received the information listed below from the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition. Karin has also shared that she was also the recipient of one of these contacts but that fortunately her instincts told her that something was fishy about the proposed transaction.
Hello Artists,
We want to bring to your attention an art scam that is currently circulating in the hopes that no one will fall prey to the scammers.
The Scam:
An email claiming to be from Sarah Cammarata from North Lima, Ohio is sent requesting to buy a piece of your artwork. After hearing back from you, they send a reply stating she would like to purchase it via a check. Reports have stated that the check is fake and written for too much. Artists are then supposed to return the balance. They will lose that money, plus never be able to cash the original check.
Note:
There may be accurate information in the email making it appear legitimate. The scammers seem to be gathering information on artwork through artist websites and possibly the OVAC Virtual Gallery.
Be cautious:
Many wonderful art opportunities and commissions stem from initial web searches and we receive numerous thank you’s for the resource the Virtual Gallery provides. However, if a scenario sounds too good to be true, feels suspicious or if there is pressure to complete the transaction quickly, chances are it may be a scam.
We appreciate you passing along this information to any arts contacts you have as well.
Thank you and keep creating great work!

DID YOU KNOW ?
You can have your artistic creations and images captured professionally in several places and reproduced in many ways.
If you would like to be able to make a professional portfolio like our August Speaker and Willowbrush Gallery Owner Rachel Wimpey was talking about….
(Having your art in a professional portfolio in proofs and/or CD’s to submit to a gallery)
You can reproduce your artwork and artistic creations for others to enjoy, whether it’s by creating Giclees’ (copies of your original art), magnets, postcards, coffee mugs, mouse pads, aprons, bags, plaques, coasters, cutting boards, and even lamp shades…..along with a host of other options available.
There are several places around town that can capture and reproduce your images for your portfolio, however, you want to make sure it is done with QUALITY, and INK that will last. Sometimes you may find a place that is cheaper, but it may use a lower quality ink, paper, or product and not provide long lasting, vivid color you are hoping for.
Just think about it….Christmas is coming and professional portfolios are needed…..
Maybe you can recreate your art work and make some nice Christmas presents for your family, neighbors, co-workers, or friends…
Several of our Alpha Rho Tau Members go to one particular favorite here in Tulsa.
Here’s the name of one Great Place to have that done…and they are Alpha Rho Tau Members Also:

PROPOSED FINAL BYLAW DOCUMENT
We plan to present the Bylaws in FINAL form at the September 16th general meeting. New Bylaws will go into effect when, after being approved by the membership, they are placed into the written record, by the Secretary.
Attached is your on-line opportunity to look over our New Bylaws before the meeting, and the vote.

July 2013
Happy July 4th! A day to give thanks for our independence! “Thank You” to all the men and women who have served our country, it is because of them that we have our freedoms and can grow stronger as a country and we are grateful.
It’s also a good time to reflect and say “Thank You” to all the men and women who have volunteered to serve in leadership positions in any capacity in our Tulsa A.R.T. throughout its 82 years of existence. Without you, this club would not be possible. It takes a lot of volunteers to make a meeting work: hospitality, membership, treasurer, exhibits, phone callers, people who do the work of setting up and tearing down the meeting room every month…and we are grateful to all of you for your hard work and dedication which makes this club what it is. We hope and expect that each year will be better than the previous and we can grow with the changing trends of our society, while holding on to the traditions that make our foundation strong!
I’ve given a lot of praise to our current leadership for their hard work and dedication, and teamwork is what makes the dream work! All those who volunteer are so appreciated. Sometimes the people out in front get a lot of credit, but we all know without you, it would not work!
This year, there have been some new changes in speakers, but I want you to know that all the speakers we have had in the past are wonderful. I do feel the need to clarify a statement I made in the last email, so no feelings will be hurt. When I say we have “higher caliber” speakers this year, and our President and VP are working hard this year, I am not saying that any of our past speakers or volunteers were not good quality or working hard…
I am saying that We are fortunate to have some speakers coming this year that haven’t done speaking engagements before, or they are hard to get…and they are agreeing to come to A.R.T. this year due to some great networking and contacts. It’s exciting to have speakers that have never spoken at A.R.T. before, and the speakers we have coming this year have a broad range of experiences, talents and accomplishments. They have traveled internationally, worked for companies or been chosen out of thousands in the nation to be honored for their artistic creations, and we in turn honor them and their life experiences: cultural differences, and exposure to people, places, and life which takes them out of the ordinary and places them in an extraordinary category as seasoned artists.
The goal of our new President and Vice-President is to bring to you new speakers that can challenge your growth as an artist and give you golden nuggets that can enhance your skills and training in any medium you work in, and we hope that each year will be better than the past year….not discounting the previous years, but adding to and enhancing the foundation and hard work already done.
And, WE HOPE that next year will be better than this year and every year better than that.
Like flowers, we grow and bloom every year and this year is blooming and booming at A.R.T.
DID YOU KNOW? Alpha Rho Tau is going social and we are on facebook now!

Alpha Rho Tau Northeastern University Art Show
Mark your calendars now for our 2013 Northeastern University (Broken Arrow) Art Show August 6 through August 29th. The exhibit will be judged and ribbons will be awarded. An Artist's Reception is scheduled for the evening of August 8th. Show information and entry forms may be accessed and printed at the bottom of this post.
Once you fill out your entry forms, you can turn them in at our next general meeting June 17 or mail them to our treasurer Byrene Culver, 8006 S. 75th E. Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74133.
Entry forms will also be available at our meeting.
Our Exhibit Chairman, Janette Head, emphasizes the following:
Our last exhibit had many paintings that did NOT match the entry forms. It is critical that all information must be the same on all forms: entry form, information on the back of your piece, and the title card at the exhibit. Make sure you have accurate information posted on the back of your piece that matches your entry form. If that information does not match, we will not display your painting and all fees are nonrefundable.
We will do everything we can to make sure all accurate information is recorded on the title cards, but we need your help making this possible. Keep in mind these things:
Thank you for your cooperation.
Click on this link for complete Show Information with directions, show guidelines and timeline.
Click on this link for the Entry Form to print and complete. Entry deadline is July 15th.

Meeting Cancelled for May, 20
Our meeting scheduled for Monday, May 20 has been cancelled due to the threat of severe weather in our area.
Our guest speaker has been contacted and notified of the cancellation.
The National Weather Service website for Tulsa states:
"...SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR A FEW LONG TRACK TORNADOES...
DISCUSSION...
THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BY MID AFTERNOON ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA...WEST OF HIGHWAY 75. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL RAPIDLY BECOME SEVERE...TAKING ON SUPERCELLULAR CHARACTERISTICS. ADDITIONAL SEVERE STORMS WILL DEVELOP FURTHER SOUTH INTO EAST CENTRAL OKLAHOMA BY LATE AFTERNOON. THE ATMOSPHERE IS ALREADY VERY UNSTABLE AND ADDITIONAL SURFACE HEATING IS EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON WITH STRENGTHENING WIND FIELDS ALOFT. GIVEN THE EXPECTED ENVIRONMENT...THE STRONGER STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A FEW LONG TRACK VIOLENT TORNADOES...HAIL TO THE SIZE OF BASEBALLS AND WIND GUSTS AROUND 80 MPH. IN ADDITION...HEAVY RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING WILL LIKELY BECOME AN ISSUE INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS OVER PORTIONS OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS. THE GREATEST THREAT TONIGHT WILL BE SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 44 AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 40. STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO REPEATEDLY MOVE ACROSS THIS AREA TONIGHT WITH 2 TO 4 INCHES OF RAIN COMMON. A FEW LOCATIONS COULD SEE UP TO 7 INCHES OF RAIN WHICH WOULD CAUSE LIFE THREATENING FLASH FLOODING."

WE NEED YOUR EYES AND EARS!!
NONE OF US CAN BE EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME!!!
Our new Vice-President Arielle Monks needs your help.
Have you been somewhere and seen a great artist of any medium, oil pastel photography ceramics?
Do you know any artists that you would like to hear speak or see do a demo?
Arielle is collecting Artist’s names that may be potential speakers in the future for 2014 -2015.
We don’t all go to the same places, so your input is vital and appreciated!
Please, keep your eyes and ears open and be on the lookout for great artists!
**Our March speaker, Todd A. Williams, came to us through our member Ida Mae’s referral from three years ago! But it was his time to speak in March 2013! (Thanks Ida Mae Sells!)
***Please get the Artists’ business cards or write their contact information down, and pass it on to our Vice-President Arielle Monks at the meetings or email her at: ariellemonks@yahoo.com

Posting Your Photos On Our Gallery
Posting Photos To Our Gallery
We encourage members to post up to five photos of their artwork to the Alpha Rho Tau Gallery. As you add additional images beyond five we will archive your older images.
Please supply the titles for your artwork!
Email your jpeg photos to Bill Oswald at m.oswald@cox.net. Please use the subject "ART Gallery" to make your message easier to find!
Most digital cameras save your photos as jpeg files (sometimes identified with the jpg file extension). We can convert other photo formats to jpeg, but you save us a step if you are sending a jpeg.
As an alternative to email, you may deliver the images on a CD to either Bill or Mary Oswald at one of our meetings.
Image Guidelines and Tips:
The image should be cropped to fit the dimensions of your painting. You may show some mat in the image but we prefer to exclude the frame.
